Job Summary

Provides technical expertise in the accurate and safe delivery of radiation therapy treatments in accordance with physician prescriptions and established clinical protocols. Ensures precise treatment delivery, high standards of patient care, and safe operation of radiation therapy equipment while supporting departmental efficiency, quality, and regulatory compliance.




Essential Responsibilities

Operates radiation therapy treatment machines and CT simulators to deliver prescribed radiation doses accurately and efficiently, rotates across all therapy machines and CT simulation systems while adhering to established protocols, generates and maintains electronic treatment charts using physician prescriptions and computerized treatment plans, interprets and implements complex treatment directives, maintains accurate written and electronic documentation of daily treatments and patient care activities, ensures strict compliance with radiation safety protocols to protect patients and staff, applies clinical and technical knowledge of radiation therapy techniques and treatment rationale, integrates instructions from medical and physics teams to ensure accurate dose delivery and field placement, evaluates and monitors treatment machine performance and assists with equipment commissioning, calibration, quality assurance, and physical measurements, prepares and educates patients for radiation therapy procedures while monitoring patient condition during treatment sessions, communicates effectively and professionally with healthcare team members, patients, and families, monitors patient clinical responses and withholds treatment when clinically indicated while coordinating medical or nursing intervention, assists in the clinical training and evaluation of radiation therapy students, adheres to internal quality control standards and institutional policies, maintains required licensure and certifications, ensures a clean and professional treatment environment, participates in annual performance benchmarking.




Marginal or Periodic Duties

Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure, performs additional related duties as assigned.




Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, clinical oncology, radiobiology, radiation physics, and radiation safety, advanced technical expertise in radiation oncology, effective verbal and written communication skills, strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with clinical and treatment teams.




Education and Experience

Minimum Qualifications
Graduate of an American Medical Association accredited Radiation Therapy program.

Preferred Qualifications
At least one year of related radiation therapy experience, experience working with Varian radiation therapy equipment.




Licenses and Certifications

Required
Certification in Radiation Therapy Technology through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, Texas Medical Board license in Medical Radiologic Technology, Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association.

Preferred
Computed Tomography certification.
