Tableau Server Administrator

Location: San Antonio, TX (Onsite / Hybrid as determined by client)
Pay Rate: $55/hour

The Tableau Server Administrator is responsible for the administration, performance, security, and ongoing optimization of the organization’s Tableau Server environment. This role serves as the primary technical point of contact for Tableau Server operations, ensuring system availability, scalability, security compliance, and high-quality user experience across the enterprise. The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on experience supporting Tableau Server in a Windows environment and partnering with business, infrastructure, and vendor teams.

• Administer and maintain Tableau Server environments, including site configuration, projects, data sources, user accounts, groups, and permissions

• Monitor Tableau Server performance, capacity, and system health, ensuring optimal availability and scalability

• Perform routine maintenance, patching, and version upgrades for Tableau Server environments

• Configure and manage Tableau Server security, including SSL certificates, LDAP integration, and Active Directory synchronization

• Serve as the primary technical point of contact for Tableau Server–related incidents, service requests, and escalations

• Monitor server logs, background processes, and scheduled jobs, troubleshooting and resolving failures or performance issues

• Design, develop, and implement standardized administrative processes and workflows for Tableau Server

• Collaborate with IT, infrastructure, and network teams to ensure proper integration with enterprise systems and Windows Server environments

• Work directly with Tableau vendor support on cluster issues, upgrades, escalations, and platform enhancements

• Develop and maintain custom administrative dashboards to monitor Tableau Server usage, performance, and adoption

• Manage Tableau Server and Tableau Desktop licensing

• Train and support end users on Tableau best practices, including data governance, security, and content management

• Design, develop, optimize, and troubleshoot Tableau dashboards to meet business and performance requirements

• Support data preparation, data extract management, and live data source validation using Tableau and other data analysis tools

• Design and maintain internal web pages to host and display embedded Tableau dashboards

• Proven hands-on experience as a Tableau Server Administrator

• Strong knowledge of Tableau Server architecture, administration, and performance tuning

• Experience with user access management, security configuration, and permissions

• Hands-on experience managing SSL certificates, LDAP, and Active Directory integration

• Strong understanding of Windows Server environments and basic network troubleshooting

• Experience monitoring and resolving issues related to Tableau background tasks and scheduling

• Ability to serve as a technical escalation point and work effectively with cross-functional teams

• Experience supporting or migrating environments from Tableau Server to Tableau Cloud

• Experience developing administrative or operational dashboards

• Familiarity with certificate management in enterprise BI environments

• Experience embedding Tableau dashboards into internal or external web applications
