Role Summary
An established healthcare organization is seeking a full-time Inpatient Psychiatrist to provide comprehensive psychiatric services within an inpatient correctional healthcare setting. This role focuses on delivering high-quality mental health care to an underserved patient population in a structured, secure environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct psychiatric care to assigned inpatient populations
- Conduct psychiatric, physical, and neurological examinations
- Participate in civil commitment and due process proceedings as required
- Support voluntary admissions and compelled psychoactive medication processes
- Provide clinical supervision to psychiatric mid-level practitioners as assigned
- Participate in quality improvement and quality management initiatives
- Provide emergency psychiatric call coverage as part of a shared rotation
- Comply with all clinical, documentation, utilization review, and timekeeping requirements
- Adhere to established internal controls, reporting structures, and security protocols
- Perform additional related duties as assigned
Work Environment
- Located within the confines of a prison, jail or juvenile detention center. Security clearance is required; pre-employment drug testing is also required.
- Practice is located within a secure correctional or detention facility
- Standard office and clinical equipment provided
- Cell phones are not permitted onsite due to security policies; landline access is available
Required Qualifications
- Active license to practice medicine in the state of Texas
- Eligibility for Board Certification in Psychiatry
- Active DEA registration for controlled substances
Preferred Qualifications
- Two (2) or more years of relevant psychiatric experience
- Experience with electronic medical record systems and digital medical utilization
Additional Details
- Weekly rotating on-call responsibilities are required and shared among providers
- After-hours on-call is conducted remotely
- No requirement to remain onsite overnight or return to the facility after hours
- No productivity quotas or RVU-based performance requirements
