JOB OVERVIEW
Responsible for knowing all or part of the test procedures, used in the Edison Site Laboratory, that are required to maintain production at the Site.
 
Key Responsibilities

• Accountable for personal safety, the safety of fellow employees and contractors, and for promoting a safe work environment
• Ensure that housekeeping and hazard communication standards are maintained
• Able to understand and perform all test procedures and equipment needed to perform these tests
• Performs polymerizations and physical testing of polymers
• Learns as many new test procedures and process activities as possible during the introduction of new products
• Serves as a member or stand-in for quality/ environmental/ safety meetings
• Assists the Production Department in troubleshooting quality problems
• Operates in an efficient manner so that resources are not wasted
• Assists with the maintenance / troubleshooting of the instruments / equipment
• Maintains SQC charts for selected products
• Performs required ISO instrument calibrations
• Maintains good housekeeping practices in the Q.C. Laboratory
• Understanding and operational use of the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
• Loads and unloads 55-gallon drums weighing up to 450 pounds with the use of a hand cart, lifts boxes weighing up to 40 pounds
• Performs other duties that may be assigned

 
Quality-Specific Responsibilities

• Understands and helps implement the site’s Quality Policy and the Continuous Improvement Process (CIP)
• Is fully aware of all position-specific quality assurance responsibilities
• Is familiar with Site-wide Document Control, Internal Quality, Corrective Action, Non-Conforming Product, and Record Keeping procedures
• Actively participates in Quality Improvement Teams

 
Environment-Specific Responsibilities

• Understands and helps implement the Edison Site Environmental Policy and Objectives
• Is aware of potential environmental impacts within this position’s area of responsibility and the consequences if an upset occurs
• Understands and implements all parts of the Edison Environmental Compliance Plan and Waste Management Plan that apply to this position’s area of responsibility
• Participates in the Site’s on-going Pollution Prevention Process

 
Health and Safety Specific Responsibilities

• Understands and helps implement the Site’s Safety Policy
• Actively participates in site’s health and safety programs
• Understands and complies with all health and safety rules
• Routinely demonstrates safe work practices
• Attends all required health and safety related meetings and training sessions
• Corrects or reports all non-conforming conditions

 
Qualification Criteria

• High School Graduate / 5+years of laboratory experience in plant operations
• Associate degree / 2+ years of laboratory experience in plant operations
• BS Chemistry or related technical field / no experience

 
Top 3 Must-Have Skills

1. Basic lab instrumentation knowledge
2. Must be able to follow all lab procedures
3. Must be able to do lab data entry and reporting
