Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) Systems Engineer

Job Summary
The IT Systems Engineer – Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) is responsible for designing, configuring, supporting, and maintaining Microsoft-based infrastructure and enterprise systems, with a strong emphasis on Azure Virtual Desktop environments and IT asset management. This role ensures the reliability, security, performance, and scalability of systems supporting end users and internal stakeholders. The position requires hands-on technical expertise, automation capabilities, and the ability to collaborate across support and engineering teams to resolve complex issues and continuously improve service delivery.

Key Responsibilities
• Design, test, deploy, and maintain software and systems used to manage Information Technology assets, including inventory, licensing, patching, deployment, and reporting
• Identify, document, and manage processes for tracking, updating, quality assurance, and reporting from IT asset databases
• Configure, deploy, and support Azure Virtual Desktop host pools, session hosts, scaling plans, and related components
• Manage and optimize FSLogix profiles and image deployment strategies
• Monitor system and AVD performance, analyze trends, and troubleshoot complex infrastructure and application issues
• Automate administrative and operational tasks using PowerShell and Infrastructure-as-Code tools
• Implement and enforce security best practices and ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory standards
• Provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 support for AVD-related incidents and document root cause analysis and resolutions
• Coordinate maintenance activities for workstations and virtual environments; identify recurring issues and recommend corrective actions
• Consult with support teams, help desks, customers, and technical staff to resolve system and infrastructure issues
• Develop and maintain technical standards, guidelines, and best practices
• Plan and execute transitions of development and production environments to new technologies
• Monitor system software and manage system data to maintain performance and operational efficiency
• Analyze system requirements and determine appropriate installation methods and procedures
• Produce data analysis and reporting related to update compliance, hardware assets (computer and mobile), software utilization, and other operational metrics
• Manage software availability and distribution to internal teams and end users

Required Skills and Experience
• 3+ years of hands-on experience administering Azure Virtual Desktop environments
• Strong knowledge of Azure infrastructure, including networking, identity management, and security
• Proficiency in PowerShell scripting and automation
• Experience with FSLogix profile management, image management, and performance tuning
• Familiarity with Azure Monitor and Log Analytics
• Experience supporting Microsoft-based enterprise environments

Preferred Skills
• Experience with Microsoft Intune for device compliance, application deployment, and policy management
• Knowledge of hybrid environments integrating Azure Virtual Desktop with Intune and endpoint management solutions

Preferred Certifications
• Microsoft AZ-104 – Azure Administrator
• Microsoft AZ-140 – Configuring and Operating Azure Virtual Desktop
