SHIFT: M-F 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Position Overview

A healthcare organization supporting correctional medical services is seeking a Board-Eligible or Board-Certified Psychiatrist to provide inpatient psychiatric care within a structured correctional healthcare environment in Richmond, Texas. The role focuses on delivering comprehensive mental health treatment to an underserved patient population within a secure inpatient setting. The psychiatrist will work as part of a multidisciplinary clinical team responsible for evaluating, diagnosing, and treating individuals with acute and chronic psychiatric conditions.

This opportunity offers a predictable weekday schedule, strong clinical support, and the ability to focus on patient care without private practice billing, RVU quotas, or productivity pressures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct inpatient psychiatric care to assigned patients within a correctional facility.
  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, including physical and neurological assessments when appropriate.
  • Diagnose and treat a wide range of mental health conditions using evidence-based psychiatric care.
  • Participate in due process proceedings related to voluntary admission and compelled psychoactive medication.
  • May assist in civil commitment proceedings for mentally ill patients transitioning from the correctional system.
  • Provide clinical supervision to psychiatric mid-level practitioners when assigned.
  • Participate in quality improvement and quality management initiatives related to psychiatric services.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary care teams including nursing, behavioral health, and medical staff.
  • Provide emergency psychiatric call coverage as required.
  • Maintain compliance with internal documentation, reporting procedures, and clinical standards.
  • Perform additional duties as required to support patient care and program operations.

Work Environment:

This position is located within a secure correctional facility environment. All providers must successfully complete required security clearance procedures and pre-employment screening.

Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO).
  • Current license to practice medicine in the State of Texas or ability to obtain prior to start.
  • Board Eligible or Board Certified in Psychiatry.
  • Active DEA registration for controlled substances.

Preferred

  • Two or more years of psychiatric clinical experience.
  • Experience working with underserved or complex patient populations.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records and digital medical documentation systems.
