Technical Writer - Security Defense & Response

Job Title: Technical Writer – Cyber and Physical Security
Hours: Monday-Friday 9am-6pm CST
Duration: 2-year contract (plus benefits!)

Job Summary:

As a Technical Writer focused on Cyber and Physical Security, you will analyze, review, and research current business practices and industry benchmarks to create easily accessible internal policies, procedures, and various documentation for the Integrated Security Department. In this role, you will coordinate and collaborate with internal and external organizations, as well as subject matter experts, to develop and update security-related policies and procedures. You will provide technical editing services and promote knowledge sharing within Integrated Security.




Key Responsibilities:


  • Create clear, concise, and accurate security documentation for a variety of audiences, including both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Documentation may include user manuals, configuration guides, security policies, training materials, white papers, and blog posts.
  • Work closely with security engineers and other technical specialists to gather subject matter expertise, ensuring the accuracy of the content.

  • Ensure all documentation adheres to security best practices and technical accuracy standards.

  • Regularly update and maintain existing security documentation to reflect changes in policies, procedures, and technology.

  • Develop and implement a content management strategy to organize and manage security information efficiently.

  • Create documentation that is user-friendly, easy to understand, and simple to navigate.

  • Gain a deep understanding of the security posture and compliance requirements of the organization.

  • Work effectively with internal stakeholders (engineers, security analysts, managers) to gather necessary information and ensure content accuracy.

  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex security concepts in a clear and concise manner.




Minimum Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Information Systems, IT, IT Security, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or equivalent information security experience.

  • Knowledge of information technology security principles and methods.

  • Familiarity with vulnerability information dissemination sources such as alerts, advisories, and bulletins.

  • Understanding key concepts in security management, including vulnerability management, patch management, and incident response.

  • Experience collecting data from various cyber defense resources.

  • Skill in identifying and categorizing various types of vulnerabilities and associated attacks.

  • Experience using security event correlation tools (SIEM).

  • Ability to conduct vulnerability scans and recognize vulnerabilities in information systems.

  • Ability to apply techniques for detecting host and network-based intrusions using various detection technologies.

  • Ability to interpret information gathered from network security tools.




Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience in both cyber and physical security domains.

  • Experience working in Security Operations Centers (SOCs).

  • Experience with software documentation.
